Aikido is an effective, nonviolent system of self-defense. In fact, many police agencies throughout the world include aikido techniques in their arrest tactics training. Yet the founder of aikido, Moreihei Ueshiba Sensei, talked of his creation as the art of peace and reconciliation. He often commented that the primary goal of aikido was to make better human beings.

This will be Hofmeister Sensei's 10th annual spring seminar at our dojo and we are all looking forward to his visit. There's also some serious talk that a group will be coming up from South Austin Aikido which will make the weekend even more special. Remember to mark your calendars!

Also_ Aikido West in Redwood City is hosting Hofmeister Sensei for a seminar on the weekend of February 2 - 4, 2007.

At least almost... pinning down some dates!

This year heralds Tres Hofmeister Sensei's 10th annual spring visit to our dojo. He and I have been bouncing tentative dates back and forth for a couple of days now. April has been our month of choice over these past years. Through experience we have learned that seminar attendance is not too good on the weekends that include Easter and the 'tax deadline', April 15, This year the Cherry Blossom Seminar celebrating Saotome Sensei's 70th birthday is being held on the weekend of April 6-8. Boulder Aikikai is holding their annual spring seminar on the weekend of April 20-22. So there you have it. Actually, you don't have it... a date that is. I'll let you know as soon as Hofmeister Sensei and I know!

Just minutes ago Todd Kammerer and I firmed up a date for my 5th annual seminar in Austin. I will be visiting my good friends at South Austin Aikido on the weekend of September 7-9.
