Welcome to Aiki Zenshin Dojo

Aikido, the modern martial art!

Aikido is an effective, nonviolent system of self-defense. In fact, many police agencies throughout the world include aikido techniques in their arrest tactics training. Yet the founder of aikido, Moreihei Ueshiba Sensei, talked of his creation as the art of peace and reconciliation. He often commented that the primary goal of aikido was to make better human beings.

At Aiki Zenshin Dojo we strive to honor the vision of Ueshiba Sensei. I hope that you will take time to check out our web site and the links that we have included. If you have any questions, feel free to send e-mail or give me a call. Foremost, I cordially invite you to visit our Dojo, observe any of our classes, and get a feeling for our community.

Alright!  I got in some beach time and also managed to get these galleries up!

Teen, Mrudula Vemuri, successfully navigated her "teen yellow belt review".

Art Rodkin & Thierry Tamonte were promoted to rokyu (6th kyu). Harrison Ching was promoted to gokyu (5th kyu).  Enjoy the pics!

Children's test pics_ March 10, 2007.
Monday, 02 April 2007

Greetings on a beautiful Monday morning.  I am in Santa Cruz working on my friends kitchen table enjoying the coastal air and sunshine.  Shortly I'll be taking a break and head out for some beach time.  I came over in late  afternoon on Saturday. I had a quick snack, and a quicker shower, and we were off to a concert featuring Ravi Shankars daughter, Anoushka Shankar.  She was awesome starting out with traditional Indian ragas and moving onward to Indian fusion arrangements.  Very cool!  Yesterday, Sunday, we attended a very progressive church in the morning followed by a tasty lunch on the Capitola pier. I took a short nap in the afternoon... love a good nap! Once up and moving I managed to get in a couple hours of website work.  In the evening we took in some local theatre.  It was a song and dance production called "We're Toast".  It was a social commentary piece focusing on the frenetic pace of modern living.  It was very well done and  I was very taken with the dancing...  very  aiki!   Oh man, I 'gotta' stop this chatting or I'll miss my opportunity to catch some beach rays!

I hope that you enjoy the pics from our last Children's test event.  Check back soon... I am working on the teens and adult albums and the plan is to get them up later today.
