Aikido is an effective, nonviolent system of self-defense. In fact, many police agencies throughout the world include aikido techniques in their arrest tactics training. Yet the founder of aikido, Moreihei Ueshiba Sensei, talked of his creation as the art of peace and reconciliation. He often commented that the primary goal of aikido was to make better human beings.

December 2007_ an amazingly busy and joyous month!

It’s the day after Christmas and I am recovering from a delightful Christmas as well as the busiest December that our dojo has ever had!

Early in month we hosted a ‘training event’ for the MSJA swimmers. Between our students and the swimmers we had over a hundred kids on our mat divided into three hourly groups by age. Our visitors got in some training time and had the opportunity to watch demonstrations by our kids and teens as well as a cutting demonstration by Osawa Sensei and myself. As I catch up with my tail, I’ll be posting photos and more of the story.

On December 18^th we held belt exams for children, teen and adult kyu ranks. On December 22 we held black belt exams followed by a really delightful Holiday potluck party!

So, I have lots of photos to process and stories to spin. All in time! For now congratulations to the following students on your promotions!

Children’s Program:
Mark Emmons_ white belt + 1 stripe.
Dan-Anh Hoang_ white belt + 1 stripe.
Timothy Hong_ white belt + 2 stripes.
Dalton Pham_ white belt + 2 stripes.
Victoria Pham_ white belt + 2 stripes.
Austin Whaley_ yellow belt + 1 stripe.

Teen Progarm:
Leslie Chan_ teen orange belt / low.
Melody Yang_ teen orange belt / low.

Scooter Taber (teen)_ adult rank / rokyu.
Stephanie Zee (teen)_ adult rank / rokyu.
