Aikido, the modern martial art! Aikido is an effective, nonviolent system of self-defense. In fact, many police agencies throughout the world include aikido techniques in their arrest tactics training. Yet the founder of aikido, Moreihei Ueshiba Sensei, talked of his creation as the art of peace and reconciliation. He often commented that the primary goal of aikido was to make better human beings. Saturday morning the dojo was once again filled with ‘Test Event’ excitement. Before the morning was over six children, six teens and one adult had successfully managed the test material showing that they were deserving of their new ranks. Two of the test candidates shined very brightly. Anila Kalonia was jumped an additional rank. Anila is a very serious aikidoka. Some months back she asked for permission to attend the teen classes. She is only ten years old and yet I gave her the ole ‘thumbs up’ without hesitation. Another very serious student is Tiffany Trieu. Her transition exam taking her from kids’ ranks to teen ranks was truly stellar! Congratulations to everyone on your advancements. Every test was wonderful!
