Welcome to Aiki Zenshin Dojo

Aikido, the modern martial art!

Aikido is an effective, nonviolent system of self-defense. In fact, many police agencies throughout the world include aikido techniques in their arrest tactics training. Yet the founder of aikido, Moreihei Ueshiba Sensei, talked of his creation as the art of peace and reconciliation. He often commented that the primary goal of aikido was to make better human beings.

At Aiki Zenshin Dojo we strive to honor the vision of Ueshiba Sensei. I hope that you will take time to check out our web site and the links that we have included. If you have any questions, feel free to send e-mail or give me a call. Foremost, I cordially invite you to visit our Dojo, observe any of our classes, and get a feeling for our community.

It was a totally awesome seminar!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last weekend’s seminar with Tres Hofmeister Sensei was simply a blast...  lots of learning and exploring, lots of laughter, lots of sweating and lots of coming together in community.  We had students from a number of Bay Area dojos as well as two very special guests, actually extended family members, Jay Lindholm Sensei & Todd Kammerer Sensei from South Austin Aikido.  Hmmm… the words “extended family” don’t quite fit… we ARE family!

This was our 10th annual spring seminar with Hofmeister Sensei.  Each year gets better!   Hofmeister Sensei is currently pursuing training in the Feldenkrais Method .  Due to this influence his teachings focused upon the importance of one’s own body-structural ease while ‘connected’ with your training partner.  Simply put, in the form of a question, are you moving in a way that honors and protects the integrity of your body?  As the weekend progressed a number of students ‘got it!’… the more at ‘ease’ I am in my own body the more successful I am in connecting with another body.  Now our job is to remember and practice!

I am extremely proud to announce that we have two new black belts!  Congratulations to Stan Chan and Steve Osawa.  Both showed exceptional poise and centeredness.  Each of their tests reflected a depth of skill and ‘heart’ that comes with many years of ‘conscious’ training.

Here’s a group photo and one of our new shodan!
