Aikido, the modern martial art! Aikido is an effective, nonviolent system of self-defense. In fact, many police agencies throughout the world include aikido techniques in their arrest tactics training. Yet the founder of aikido, Moreihei Ueshiba Sensei, talked of his creation as the art of peace and reconciliation. He often commented that the primary goal of aikido was to make better human beings. Chip tested on December 22, 2007. He did a really fine presentation in front of a testing board composed of Wendy Palmer sensei (6th dan_ Aikido of Tamalpais), Jim Alvarez sensei (5th dan_ Shinrei dojo / Aikido of Livermore) and myself. We celebrated in high spirits with an afternoon potluck party. We are all proud of Chip's accomplishment . Chip is one of our assistant instructors instructing our Monday kid's class. They tease that he's mean Chip-san... and they love him and miss him whenever life calls him elsewhere.
