Aikido, the modern martial art! Aikido is an effective, nonviolent system of self-defense. In fact, many police agencies throughout the world include aikido techniques in their arrest tactics training. Yet the founder of aikido, Moreihei Ueshiba Sensei, talked of his creation as the art of peace and reconciliation. He often commented that the primary goal of aikido was to make better human beings. We enjoyed another morning of really wonderful tests. The pace of the children’s class was very relaxed. Typically we have eight to ten kids testing for new belt ranks. Five kids were scheduled and we had one ‘no show’ so we had plenty of time for our candidates to demonstrate their skills. The easy pace also afforded the kids an opportunity to spend time training with our teens and adults that showed up to support the event. Our adults and teens trained and tested in a class held from 11 am to 12:30 pm. Four kyu test were scheduled and sadly one candidate got sick and didn’t make it. Just the same there was little time to spare. We had one rokyu (6th kyu) exam followed by two nikyu (2nd kyu) exams. Two of our dedicated teens tested for nikyu and each test lasted about 25 minutes. All the tests were wonderful! It was a very busy day at the dojo. Immediately following the Test Event we set up the targets for our monthly tameshigiri (target cutting) class which finished up at 3:30 pm. Throughout the entire day Derek, Jeff and Andrew were shooting footage for a new dojo promotional dvd. When all the cleanup was done and the filming equipment packed up, a bunch of us went out for a very late lunch. Whew… nap time Congratulations on your promotions:Children’s Program. Adult Program.
