Welcome to Aiki Zenshin Dojo

Aikido, the modern martial art!

Aikido is an effective, nonviolent system of self-defense. In fact, many police agencies throughout the world include aikido techniques in their arrest tactics training. Yet the founder of aikido, Moreihei Ueshiba Sensei, talked of his creation as the art of peace and reconciliation. He often commented that the primary goal of aikido was to make better human beings.

At Aiki Zenshin Dojo we strive to honor the vision of Ueshiba Sensei. I hope that you will take time to check out our web site and the links that we have included. If you have any questions, feel free to send e-mail or give me a call. Foremost, I cordially invite you to visit our Dojo, observe any of our classes, and get a feeling for our community.

The dojo will be closed on Labor Day, September 6th.

Enjoy your holiday!

The days fly by so quickly!

It's Monday evening, Labor Day, and I've been working on our last Test Event pics and... I'm still not done with the ones from Tuesday, 8/19.  I haven't even started on the photos from Saturday, 8/23.  There's always a lot happening at the dojo, keeping all the classes moving along, cleaning up after our doves which is a daily chore, keeping the pond water fresh, fighting off ant invasions and scores of other little tasks that seek attention.  The 'to-do list' seems to be ever growing.  Once it was said that computers would cut down on our work load.  Somebody didn't look far enough into the future!  However, I do by far prefer doing the dojo accounting on 'the machine' rather than on ledger paper!

I spent Saturday evening and Sunday in Santa Cruz.  I had a nice time hanging out with friends at the Begonia Festival in  Capitola. I even got some beach time in and I have a wee bit of a sun burn to prove it.  I got back to the dojo this afternoon about five oclock and a scene from 'wild kingdom' was unfolding in the parking lot right in front of the dojo.  A hawk had taken down a blue jay and was having dinner.  I didn't immediately notice what was happening and thought that somebody had dropped a shirt or jacket.  By the time I stopped my truck, I was about five feet away. That little bird of prey was ready to take on my truck to keep his prize!  I backed up and gave some space... the bird seemed to look me right in the eye... a deep primal message, and then taloned its dinner flying off to a more private dining place.  I felt blessed by the occurrance, reminded that nature continues on even amidst overpass construction and vast crowds heading to Frys Electronics for the holiday specials.

Speaking of flying... Thursday I am off to teach my 6th annual seminar at South Austin Aikido .  I am so jazzed!  I so look forward to seeing all my Austin friends and others I have yet to meet.  This year Steve Sensei, Chip-san, Tommy-san and Derek-san are also making the journey.  Whew... we're going to have an awesome time!   All of our classes will meet as usual.  Martin Sensei, John-san, Howard-san, Stan-san and others will be keeping the dojo movin' right along!

Keep checking back for the test pics...

Sweet Blessings!
