Aiki Zenshin Dojo offers traditional weapons classes in the bokken (Japanese wooden sword) and the jo (short staff). The training consists of individual moves, as well as partner practices. The moments emphasize breathing, balance, timing, and blending with the actions of your partner. Weapons training is complementary to the empty hand techniques of Aikido. Training with these weapons has some similarities and some differences from traditional sword and staff methods. "Standing before my enemy, he strikes, but I am already behind him." -Morihei Ueshiba O Sensei integrated the training with the basic movements used in traditional empty hand training. Partner practice also emphasizes keeping the student's spirit strong despite the distractions of danger.
