Aikido, the modern martial art! Aikido is an effective, nonviolent system of self-defense. In fact, many police agencies throughout the world include aikido techniques in their arrest tactics training. Yet the founder of aikido, Moreihei Ueshiba Sensei, talked of his creation as the art of peace and reconciliation. He often commented that the primary goal of aikido was to make better human beings. | Anniversary celebration on June 3! |

We've got a party coming up on Saturday, June 3. What's the occasion? We are celebrating the dojo's 14th anniversary and my 20th year in the art. This is an opportunity for a big, dojo family reunion. Invitations are going out to students that we haven't seen for a while as well as our aikido friends from other area dojos. Family members and friends are all cordually invited to share in the fun. Here's the day's schedule: Training will be held from 2 - 4 pm. Adults and teens regardless of rank are invited to participate. Through experience I have learned that the crowded mat can be a bit overwhelming for a kid. I also remember that many of our young ones handled the situation very well. So, any child wishing to train will need to get permission from me in advance. A food extravaganza will begin at 4pm. If the trend holds from previous anniversary parties, get ready for a major gustatory delight with foods from around the world! Bring your favorite dish to share (portion idea: 6 - 8). A BBQ grill will be available. Entertainment: 5:15 pm-ish. So far we have a commitment from Magic Marvin and his assistant Spiffy-san. Would you like to entertain us as well? Let me know...
