Aikido, the modern martial art! Aikido is an effective, nonviolent system of self-defense. In fact, many police agencies throughout the world include aikido techniques in their arrest tactics training. Yet the founder of aikido, Moreihei Ueshiba Sensei, talked of his creation as the art of peace and reconciliation. He often commented that the primary goal of aikido was to make better human beings. I have the honor and privilege of having been invited to be Aikido of Modesto's guest instructor for the month of January. They have committed to a program of bringing in a local sensei each month for a one day seminar. I think that it's a wonderful idea and I am so pleased to have this opportunity. I am encouraging our students to join me in supporting this aikido community outreach event. We will be car-pooling from the dojo. By 8 am all you'll be seeing are tail pipes... we'll be on the road... so, don't be late! All of our regularily scheduled classes will meet as usual. Mark Moses has stepped up to cover the kids training and Andrew Ma will be teaching both our weapons class @ 10 am and our 'all levels' class @ 11 am. Posted by Skys Sensei. |
